The Section on Environment and Technology’s reception at this year’s ASA meeting will be especially meaningful as it will be preceded by a memorial service for our colleague and former Section Chair, Allan Schnaiberg. Please arrive early to celebrate Allan’s life and legacy with us. Allan’s daughters, former students, and colleagues will be on hand to share their memories.
If you can’t make it to the reception to share your remembrances, please feel free to write and leave them in a comment here.

Allan was my greatest supporter. When I did not think I could get into a graduate program, he knew I could do it. When I left the program, he was there for me as well.
Even after my graduation in 2002, I still maintained contact with Allan–emailing 2 times per a year. He talked me as a fellow academic even though I never published a book or even a paper. He talked to me as the grandfather that I never had when I had no confidence. I wish I could have told Allan that I love him not as an academic but as a human being. He was the example of how an academic superstar can be a real person. He is now in peace.
